What Palestinians in Gaza Would Do First If a Ceasefire Is Called
Palestinians in Gaza answer the question: "If a ceasefire is declared in Gaza, what would be the first thing you do?”
Palestinian journalist Muna Hawwa shared on her Facebook account, “If a ceasefire is declared in Gaza, what would be the first thing you do?”
A simple question posed a lot of traumatic and deeply intimate responses from followers in Gaza. Most of the comments reflected the immense suffering Palestinians have faced during over 14 months of the on-going genocide committed by Israel.
Here is how Palestinians in Gaza responded to the question:
"We will go to search for my brother's body and bury him." – Khloud Wadi
"I want to sleep, I want to cry, I want to give each loved one their share of sadness. I want to inspect the rubble of the destroyed houses; we need to lift the rubble off our children.” – Amal Habib
"I will visit my husband's grave and tell him that the war is over; come, let's return to our home." – Shuroq Abu Nassar
"If the war stops, other endless wars will begin: the search for the missing, burying the martyrs, the postponed grief, and the lost home and safety." – Ahmed Hijazi
"I will return to the proud north of Gaza, I will bid farewell to my brother who was killed and whom I never saw. I will build him a grave." – Dr. Ahmed Abu Sido
"We will check on our surviving friends, search for the bodies of our friends and relatives that remained under the rubble of houses and then we'll set up tents to sit in them on top of the rubble of our homes." – Ahmed Samir
"I want to visit my father's grave that we left in the north and apologize to him for not taking him with us, thinking we'd be back in two days.
I don't know if his grave is still there, my love, because it seems that even the dead frighten the Zionists." – Om Karoom
They will need at least 700 trucks a day to come in to provide for food, medical supplies and other necessities that have been withheld for so long.
Praying for the ceasefire to come sooner.
